Layering it up!

I experimented the other day...

with layering up necklaces. My big big sister was taking me to a gig at our local bar/music venue (which I looooove). I kinda wanted to go for a layered look, and just well, went for it. It happened in a few phases, between which I was being my very indecisive and not so confidant self...

1. So this is what I started with. I kept it mostly pink (not a hard thing to do for me really...) with a few other colours splashed in. It looked ok, but I thought it needed a bit of something extra...

2. So phase two! I went a little bit crazy, added a bit of purple and some shorter necklaces. Stuck with this for like five minutes, then decided I should maybe tone it down a little...

3. Phase three, took out everything I added in phase two, except the purple.

4. And... then I chickened out. I dunno, I think it all came down to a lack of confidence in the end.

I'm kinda glad I decided against the layered look in the end, I was sooooo warm and the gig and having a load of necklaces on would have just made it worse, and I would have spent all night trying to keep them all in perfect place! But I can't decide whether layering is something I'll try again, I think confidence issues will always kick in at the last minute (it happens to me quite a lot). I guess this is as far as I'll ever take it:

What I wore...

Yesterday I went with my big sis to my big big sisters house!

Trust me, that sentence makes sense in my head... But yeah, we had a bit of a "Glasto party" =) involving lots of food, but no carbs =/ (when big sis was driving me home, she told me that she was craving carbs so bad, "I want some bread!!" ha). It was nice, we all got to watch blur together, it was a special moment =)

This is what I wore =)

The necklace is another Heidi Seeker =) Another name necklace... I do love them. (I realise now that adopting an alias and then taking photos of myself wearing name necklaces isn't the smartest thing I've ever done, but oh well!) I perhaps should have taken a better picture of the t-shirt, as it is amazing.

What I wore...

The other day at my sisters...

Went round to check out her new rabbit run =D and to generally hang out. Caught a bit of sun, not good in the t-shirt I had on, now have some rather attractive tan-sleeves. Woo...

This t-shirt is preeeeetty old... but I love it =) Mainly because it has a unicorn AND a rainbow on it, mega bonus! My pink plastic gladiators are also a love of mine...

Obligatory necklace shot (ooh and Rainbow Heart Sunnies, yaaaaaaaaaaay!)
This necklace is from Heidi Seeker and is pretty amazing =) I do love personalised name necklaces! And pink. And neon. =D That ring is another Lady Luck, and they still have them in stock! They didn't have the purple and yellow ones in when I got mine, they're pretty cool colours.

Oh, and don't buy rainbow heart sunnies from Topshop, they have the same ones (or if not the same, then pretty similar...) in New Look for £5, and the Topshop ones are £15 I think.

Fake Festival

My and my sister went last Saturday...

To a Fake Festival. Woooo! Its like a festival, but with tribute acts. And my dads band =) (which is why we went...) It was pretty cool, there was an Arctic Monkeys tribute and lots of food! (I pigged out just a little!) My sister finally got her pics on Facebook, and I likey this one =)

My sister has also decided she wants a name necklace for her birthday, need to decide which one to get. I'm terrible at buying necklaces for other people... (mainly because I don;t want to give them away!)

Fringe necklace

Today I stumbled across this...

A beautiful fringe necklace from Norwegian Wood! (I love that name, just because I love the song). This necklace is so wonderful, I love the layering of different sized chains, and of course the beautiful fringing in gorgeous colours, again in different sizes and an offset design which gives it a bit of an edge. I do have a soft spot for fringing, I always wanted to live in the 20's and dance the Charleston in a fringed dress =) The closest I got was in a dance show when I was younger, dancing to Fat Sams Grand Slam in a purple satin dress with a row of white fringing along the top and bottom (it would have been way too expensive to cover the whole thing in layers of fringing) and a pretty cute headpiece. But anywhoo, the necklace!

(Image belongs to iheartnorweiganwood)

Isn't it just gorgeous? Unfortunately, its a little bit out of my price range at the minute =( But I might add a 1920's flapper inspired fringed necklace to my list of diy's to attempt. Check out her harnesses to, actual love!

Vintage Silk Scarf

I "acquired" this scarf when I got back from Uni...

Meaning, I found it in the house, started wearing it and mum said I could have it =) Its a bit damaged, but I do love it! I spent a while taking photos to do it justice, I'll probably get a better one some time in the future

It also looks great tied round the handle of my plainish oversized tan leather bag =) Yay!

Review: Bow and Crossbones

"Vintage, Rockabilly, Tattoo Inspired Jewels, Accessories and Bags"

I featured Bow and Crossbones in my post about tattoo inspired necklaces. I ended up ordering this necklace in pink, and decided to do a more in-depth review of the site.

As well as the tattoo inspired jewellery, the site also feature s vintage inspired and kitsch necklaces and a range of accessories, hair candy, bracelets, pins & rings and patches.

Each category is broken down into sub-categories for easy browsing, especially if you're searching for something specific, or you can choose to view all as well.

Here are a few of my favourites from each necklace category:

Tattoo Inspired

Vintage Inspired

Kitsch Inspired

(all of the above images belong to www.bowandcrossbones.com)

Now onto the necklace I bought =)
Some pics of me wearing it:

The necklace is made of the same material as the swallow tattoo necklace I reviewed before, and is again hand painted, which lets you appreciate the skill of the artist that made it. I really do love this necklace, and I don't really have much else floral in the collection. It came with stickers in the package too =) I do adore random free stuff in my packages!

Thanks Bow and Crossbones!

Wing Shot...

I went shopping with my sister the other day...

in Nottingham. Unfortunately my camera battery was pretty much dead, and I had no clue where the charger was (I am pretty terrible at this whole unpacking thing...) so I only had chance to take this one quick snap:

Unfortunately, the necklace is back to front... >=/ but its kind of a cute photo, and you get to see the wings =)

The necklace is from Kitsch-tique, this Hello Kitty necklace isn't up any more, but they have a load more cute stuff =) You can also follow them on Twitter!

I'll try and get a front shot of this necklace at some point... =p

Packing Up

So I finally found my camera cable...

and will now begin manic catch-up posting =D

When I was packing up to leave uni (sad times...) I had to take a few pics of my necklace board!

And then after they were all packed away... (well most of them, some of the larger ones had to go into the bag loose).

And this is how they will stay now, I don't have anywhere to display them at home =( That and I'm still trying to hide the full extent

Goodbye Freshers Year!

So I'm home from Uni...

and its kinda sad =( Although good to be back at the same time! And to not have the stress of packing. My mums face when she walked into my flat to see all my boxes and bin bags lined up along the edge of half our flat's corridor... I am very amazed that she managed to fit it all in the car! So all that's left now is to unpack! I took some pictures of the process of packing up my necklace collection, but can't find my camera lead, so I'll post them tomorrow.

Also tomorrow, need to pick up *something* from the post depot. My sister kept asking me what it is, but I honestly don't know as it could be any number of things... including new necklaces of course. And then head down to the haberdashery for diy delights! Yaaaaaaaay!

Speaking of my sister, she wanted to borrow a necklace tonight. So I cracked out my newly and very neatly organised collection, which she was quite impressed by. I quote: "You really need to stop. It's like an addiction..." To which I replied, "Everyone collects things!" My mother hasn't seen the collection yet, I'm keeping it quiet for the time being.

Just A Quick Post

Yesterday I was pretty busy...

I went to check out the Graduate Fashion, Art and Textile Design exhibitions at uni. I could have stayed all day, but my Textiles student flatmate isn't one to spend hours at exhibitions... The work was amazing though =)

After that I spend a very nice afternoon drinking Pimms in the Unions outside bar with all the First Year Med Students. Which was fun =)

Managed to take a quick snap of a necklace I've had for almost two years and wore for the first time yesterday!

Ursula Unicorn

The latest edition to both my bought-from-Ebay and LadyLuck necklace collections... Ursula Unicorn!

I've wanted this necklace for a long time (we're talking about four years) but for one reason or another never actually bought it, and then LadyLuck stopped stocking it. But this is the beauty of Ebay! So of course, I was very, very excited when I found this necklace, and ended up paying a little bit more than I thought I would for it, but it was worth it =) So here she is, Ursula!

I adore this necklace. As soon as it arrived I thought to myself "the only way I could be happier right now is if it were the pink version instead of the yellow". And guess what, the pink version is now up on Ebay! I can't decide whether this is a good thing or a bad one... Oh well, looks like another new necklace is in the pipeline.

Much love, Lilly xoxo

Another new tattoo-style necklace

I featured the Swallow Kisses Etsy shop in my post about tattoo necklaces. A few days ago I received the necklace I ordered =) So here's how it looks on!

I do love this necklace. And not just because I adore swallows and stars, (which I do... a lot). It's hand drawn and painted, and I like how you can really appreciate the work gone into making the necklace and the amount of talent the artist has. I also adore the chunkyness of the chain that's used, and the Swallow Kisses tag attached to the clasp is a cute touch =) as is the free stuff (stickers, a badge etc.) which came in the package. I like getting free stuff with my necklaces. It makes me happy! And speaking of packaging, it all came in a box which is great because I worry less that it's broken before I open it, and it just makes me feel good in general =D

Another very happy purchase =) Yaaaaay! (Oh, and it all came to about £10 including postage. Good times!)

Etsy Finds

I spent a lot of time yesterday trawling through Etsy and bookmarking some finds for when I was a bit more awake and ready to post. I adore Etsy, its the perfect place to find something different, and unique which is always a bonus, and you're supporting independent designers at the same time! I thought I would share some of my favourite finds =)

1.
First up, Mythunderstood . I adore her designs, they are just the epitomy of quirky and unique, and there is a lot of variety to her work too. Some of my favourite picks:

I love the last one so much, its taking a lot of self-control to not buy this!

She also makes some very interesting headpieces, rings and collars.

2.
Next up is Unique Art Pendants. What attracted me were the vintage lockets which feature vintage images. What convinced me to buy were the low prices and free shipping! (even to England)

I bought this one for myself :

And this one for my sister's birthday:

Also check out the Anatomy Science collection, Animal collection, and Retro collection. The whole shop is a treasure trove of gorgeous necklaces =)

3.
Number three is a bit unusual for me, as the pieces are almost completely out of my budget. But Canadian Rockies Art offers some of the most beautiful jewellery I've seen in a while. This piece in particular amazes me:

And this is equally as stunning:

Now all I need is a bit more cash and an excuse to give my mother as to why I spent money I don't have on stuff I don't really need...

4.
Lili Swan has so much choice its quite exciting! And everything is so pretty! It was so hard to pick just a few favourites.

Lili Swan also has an attached pendant shop: Black Swan Jewels which is also well worth checking out!

Its so worth trawling through Etsy trying to find something new and exciting that suits you and your budget. And nothing beats the feeling of knowing you own something unique =)

Much Love,

Lilly xoxo

First new Tattoo

So the slight illness turned out to be worse than I thought, but I'm back on track now =)

So this is the first of four new necklaces I obtained throughout last week, the rest will be coming up in the next few days.

So I already have this swallow necklace from ladyluckrulesok.com

And this week I splashed out on the anchor neckace

I do love personalised necklaces. Especially the comments you get like "That necklace has your name on it! How?" etc. Although when you start to build a bit of a collection of them you have to think a bit about what to have written on them, as my first name on every name necklace can be a bit boring.

The anchor necklace is very high quality, as I've come to expect from LadyLuck. Putting it next to my swallow makes me realise just how much the swallow has faded in the past year, and this one will probably fade too. Just like a real tattoo ;) I was considering buying a double sided personalised necklace such as this or this, but had issues with fade again when I looked at the back of my swallow, (which also still has a purple rave paint stain from freshers week on the back) becuase one side or the other will be against the skin and more likely to fade. Its something to think about. These necklaces also come with a choice of chain colour and length, I went with the same as my swallow, short gold toned, just incase I want to wear them together =)

So very happy with this necklace =) Thanks LadyLuck!
